Water$ave Plug and Seep are super-absorbent polymers in a dry, powdered form. When applied to the water surface the polymer works to seal the base and walls of your dam or pond in two ways.
Firstly, the particles begin to hydrate and expand on contact with water and descend to the bottom of the dam. The weight of the water (‘head pressure”) forces the particles into the cracks and voids, where the polymer particles continue to expand, creating an effective plug to stop the leaks.
Secondly, the negatively charged particles create a flocculating effect whereby soil particles suspended in the water bind together and sink to the bottom. This material also assists in stopping the leaks. When applied correctly you can achieve a permanent seal in one application.
The polymer is applied directly to the water surface by hand, or with the use of a small spreader.
If you know where the leaks are coming from, the polymer can be applied only to these areas. Otherwise it may be better to treat the entire water surface. Larger areas will require the use of a small boat as the polymers should not be broadcast more than 2m (7ft) by hand.
For best results Water$ave Plug or Seep should be applied while the dam is actively leaking. Also, the treatment area should be free of weeds and debris as these stop the polymer particles finding their way into the leaks. The water should be at least 1m (3ft) deep. We recommend using the product only on fine days, with little wind and no rain.
When applied correctly, there should be a noticeable reduction in water loss over the first few days. The full effect of the treatment can take up to 14 days.
Water$ave polymers should be applied evenly at a minimum rate of 100gm per square meter (4oz per 10 square feet). Aggressive leaks may require more product to achieve the best results.
Water$ave Plug and Seep are non-toxic and not harmful to plant and animal life and are safe to handle without protective clothing. The polymers do become slippery when wet, so care should be taken. While there is no need to remove fish, it is recommended to keep livestock away during the application to ensure the polymers are relocated from the leaking areas. The polymers will bio-degrade over 8 - 10 years, during which time the natural build-up of silt and clay will have created a permanent natural seal.
